Professional development workshops offer interactive experiences in singing, movement, listening, and literacy study using SongWorks Practices, guided by the SongWorks Principles of Teaching and Learning.

Jake Harkins was invited to present a 45-minute session for the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. Jake led participants in exploring Devon Thagard and Troy McDonald’s Little Snowflake and Vince Guaraldi’s Skating, using movement and SongWorks bridge notation techniques.
The Oregon group has met twice this school year, on August 26 and October 7, at Bessie Coleman Elementary in Corvallis, OR. Jacki Moses and Betty Phillips led a delightful group of veteran teachers and first-year teachers as they played and studied name games, seasonal song games, and song games that are sure-fire hits! After practicing antiphoning with a partner, one new teacher said, “This is such a faster way to teach a song!”
Molly Feigal and Lisa Schoen taught a full day SongWorks workshop for music teachers in Yarmouth, MA on Friday, October 6. Participants experienced playful teaching and vibrant learning while getting a taste of many SongWorks principles and practices throughout the day.
Kate Smith presented a workshop for new and early career music teachers in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia on Sunday, October 8. Together they experienced song games and learned about the principles, practices, and Sturdy Songs of SongWorks through singing, playing, and creating.
The SongWorks Chapter of Minnesota had a fantastic time playing, singing and learning at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, MN on Saturday, September 30. Terolle Turnham, Lisa Schoen, Rebecca Hahn, and Molly Feigal wove together a lovely morning of music study experiences with Skip to My Lou, Sally Go Round, Old Joe Clark, Tue Tue, and Looby Loo.
Marilyn Winter and Rachel Gunderson presented a free 3-hour workshop in Mesa, AZ on Saturday, August 26. With a focus on name games and Halloween songs, they led a group of music teachers through a playful unfolding of musical activities and music literacy.
And, during a Professional Learning Day for the Mesa Public Schools, Rachel Gunderson led a 50-minute “Introduction to SongWorks” session for music teachers on October 16th. Teachers played with “Old MacDonald” and experienced movement, mapping and music literacy and discussed the value of play and creativity in the music classroom.
English EdVentures, our SongWorks branch in Japan, held an online summer workshop on July 30. Dr. Anna Langness, master teacher, contributor, and developer of SongWorks, presented at the workshop.
Several of our SongWorks teachers worked together to plan a workshop in Utah on July 28. Emilee Knell, Betty Phillips, Susan Kenney, Kylie Decker, Dr. Brittany May, and Amie Searcy came together for a day full of music making and learning with other educators in Utah!
