From the President

Hello Everyone,

As I write this, I have only ten days left before inservice days start for the new school year. It’s hard to believe that we’re about to jump back in and do it all again! I have spent the summer biking, gardening, and working on house projects that I put off during the school year.

This time of year always brings up a lot of conflicting emotions for me. I feel torn between getting lots of work done and relaxing as much as possible while I still can. I’m excited for a fresh start with my students and to see my colleagues again, but I know that I will miss the quiet, too.

In my first few years of teaching, I tried to cram in as much self-care as possible during the summer – everything from dentist appointments to yoga classes and afternoon naps. But you can’t do all of your “living” during the summer.

What little bit of summer indulgence can you bring with you as the school year starts? Is it morning exercise, reading a book before bed, a special cup of coffee or tea, or time with friends?

Fortunately, your SongWorks friends are here to ride the waves of back-to-school emotions with you! Stay connected through our social media platforms, check out the resources on our website, and make plans to come to our Virtual Conference Series in April! I often go to our Facebook sharing page, conference handouts, and newsletter articles when I’m looking for lesson ideas. If you have a great idea, please tell us about it!

Musically Yours,
Anna

Those of you who know me will laugh at this first one simply because I haven’t changed a whit to this day!

The Children Are Coming: An Interview with Leah Sunquist

At the beginning of the school year, I’m excited to see my students! I’ve missed them, and I’m excited to rekindle the relationships. I like to touch base with what’s going on, see the growth and find out what’s happened in their lives. I am also excited about all the new things I have to present to them, and the journeys I want to take them on throughout the year.

A Tribute to Teachers

We are teachers. We know the importance of our work. We have made a career commitment to helping young people learn. Yet, we know that we’ll never finish our quest to be the best teacher we can be.
